Animal Growth

(Animal, Devotion)
Casting Time: 4 AP
Duration: 5 rounds / FP
Range: 50 feet
Area / Targets: 1 animal
Saving Throw: negates

Animal growth causes a single animal within range to expand in size. The limit of this growth is determined by the number of FP spent; each point equals a 10% adjustment. Note that this increase is measured against the creature’s starting mass; the increase to its dimensions ~ height, length and width ~ is based on a ratio of the old weight to the new. For example, a horse that stands 8 feet tall would not become 16 feet tall with a 100% increase to its mass.

This increase does not grant bonuses to the animal’s abilities, THAC0, AC or saving throws. It does grant the animal additional hit points (based on its new mass) and it increases the damage of the animal’s natural attacks (if the size increase is sufficient to warrant it).

Locate Animals and Vermin

(Animal, Devotion)
Casting Time: 4 AP
Duration: 1 hour / FP
Range: personal
Area / Targets: 1 regional hex
Saving Throw: none

The druid learns of the exact location of animals and vermin in the area. Complete and total knowledge of every single animal is not feasible; instead, the druid only needs to concentrate for a moment (2 AP) to learn the location of some specific animal or vermin. It is assumed that the druid immediately learns the primary composition of fauna in the region, as if he had spent a few weeks traveling through the area.

In the case of multiple animals or vermin that meet the druid’s search criteria, he is directed to the nearest. That distance is measured as the crow flies and does not necessarily indicate the easiest path. The druid may direct his attention to other specimens, always moving
outward from his position and locating the next nearest animal.

Speak with Animals

(Animal, Devotion)
Casting Time: 4 AP
Duration: 10 minutes / FP
Range: personal
Area / Targets: 5-foot radius / FP
Saving Throw: none

By employing this prayer, the druid gains the ability to comprehend and communicate with any animal. The druid may ask questions, receive answers and generally be on amicable terms with the animal. This communication is initially viewed as a surprise to the animal, but the creature will quickly adjust, viewing the druid as an equal, someone not to be feared or hated. While this prayer does not impart special understanding or knowledge to the animal, it allows the druid to understand the animal’s mind, such that he can converse as though speaking with an average intelligence creature.

Wild Shape, Animal

(Animal, Devotion)
Casting Time: 4 AP
Duration: 1 hour / FP
Range: personal
Area / Targets: druid
Saving Throw: none

Wild shape (animal) transforms the druid’s body into any animal that he is familiar with. The druid’s mental characteristics remain the same and his physical characteristics are modified according to the animal form taken. The druid also acquires additional physical traits, like improved or extraordinary senses, as befits the new form. Unless specifically noted in the following tables, the druid’s stats do not change.

The physical transformation requires 1 AP for each factor of mass difference. For example, if the druid is a 130lb elf and he changes into a 2,000lb horse, the process will take (2,000 / 130) = 15 AP to complete; if he instead transforms into a 5lb cat, the process will take (130 / 5) = 26 AP. The change can be performed twice per casting; once when the spell is initially cast and again when the spell ends (voluntarily or otherwise).

The druid can morph equipment into his animal form, up to 25lbs per level. Items that would exceed this limit are not transformed; instead, they are dropped to the ground as part of the process. Clothing and armor might be damaged if the druid’s new form is larger. The druid makes a saving throw for each item of clothing or armor; failure indicates the item gets caught in the new form and breaks or tears.

A druid is limited to animal forms based on his knowledge of the Animal Life field and associated studies.
